Our history: A Legacy of Learning and Growth
The history of Kinbidhoo School is a testament to the vision, resilience, and determination of the Kinbidhoo community. It all began on January 8, 1949, a date etched in the hearts of the islanders, as the long-cherished dream of establishing a school became a reality.
The Founding Years
Under the leadership of the late Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim (Ginamaage), the island chief at the time, Kinbidhoo Madharusa was established. Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim, the founder and first Head (Naaziru) of the school, served with dedication for 3 years, 5 months, and 27 days. The school started with just 3 staff members and 40 students, offering four grades. Classes were initially held in Haruge before moving to what is now the Preschool building.
The early curriculum reflected the values and needs of the community, focusing on Islam, Quran, Dhivehi, Mathematics, Handwriting (Dhivehi & Arabic), and Akhlaagu (General Behavior & Good Manners).
The Journey of Growth
In 1952, the late Mr. Abdulla Rasheed (Lileege) took over as Head of the school, serving an unparalleled 44 years, 10 months, and 5 days. Under his stewardship:
- The school was relocated to its current location, starting with a single block of five classrooms and an office.
- The medium of instruction transitioned to English in 1999.
Over the years, the school underwent several name changes—from Kinbidhoo Madharusa to Makthabbusihabu, then to Makthabul Ijthihaadh, later Kinbidhoo Makthaab, and finally, in 2000, it became Kinbidhoo School.
A Government Institution
In the year 2000, Kinbidhoo School transitioned from a community-run institution to a government school, marking a new chapter in its history. The first Grade 10 students sat for the O’ Level examinations in 2002, achieving outstanding results.
The Present Day
Today, Kinbidhoo School stands as a beacon of education and development in the Maldives, continuing to uphold its legacy of excellence.
